The SHAREs project supported so-called local heroes in setting up or expanding their energy community and enabled them to motivate consumers to participate, including those who do not yet have an affinity to energy or are simply unfamiliar with the concept of energy communities.

SHAREs’ scope
SHAREs’ objective was to support a great diversity of collective actions, contributing to increased energy efficiency, optimised energy management as well as a higher share of renewables. Thus, the term energy
communities in SHAREs referred to all forms of collective actions by and for consumers. In countries that
have already implemented European law regarding energy communities, as for example in Austria, the
focus lied on Renewable Energy Communities (REC) and Citizen Energy Communities (CEC).

How SHAREs supported energy communities and collective actions

  • SHAREs supported local heroes by creating six national gateways that:
  • Inspire by presenting best practice examples, webinars, videos and news.
  • Inform on legal, financial and technical matters and provide a glossary and FAQ catalogue.
  • Equip visitors with a collection of tools, guidelines and a picture database.
  • Enable local heroes to get members through a communication package including white-label communication materials (e.g. flyers or fact sheets), target profile descriptions and respectfully assigned key messages, guidelines for communication activities etc.
  • Activate through step-by-step guides on how to get started, define a project, get support and connect with others.
